ABSTRACT
There is a tendency, when speaking of territorial and border problems of small ethnic groups, to refer to the issue in terms of the titular nationality of the area; thus, in this present case, we frequently hear of the Ossetian problem. And yet, in reality, this begs the issue of how far the eponymous group really is or was the cause of the problem, and how far the problem was created for them by outside forces.
