ABSTRACT

Debbie Moore, founder of the Pineapple brand fashion wear and thePineapple Dance Studio in London’s Covent Garden, has been in business for twenty-two years and is still going strong. On 5 November 1982 she became the first woman company chairperson to walk out onto the old Stock Exchange trading floor to celebrate her company’s flotation. For this historic event the former model was wearing her own creations – a batwing-sleeved sweatshirt, a ra-ra skirt and black leggings. Forty per cent of the company’s one million shares were offered. At the end of the first day of trading, the share price was £1.00, almost double the issue price of 52p. The issue was over-subscribed several times. The following year, 1983, she opened the Pineapple Dance Studio in SoHo in New York City, financing it with a rights issue.
