ABSTRACT
I now turn to the Babylonian Ge’onim, in whose hands the Talmud became the key to continuity of the Jewish people. These were the forerunners who, more than any other group, influenced ibn Ezra in his negative attitude to the Karaites and alerted him to the necessity of trying to effect a union between law (Talmud) and exegesis (Bible).
