ABSTRACT

Finally, an issue of general significance in the area of the experience of the landscape (Tips and Savisdisara, 1986; Kaplan and Herbert, 1987; Chokor and Mene, 1992) concerns the possibility of similarities and differences between cultures in terms of landscape preferences. In this experiment, both this issue and the additional questions of whether or not there are differences in landscape classifications between cultures and how these influence preference were examined by having groups from two widely different geographic locations judge everyday examples of the same types of scenes from each location.
