ABSTRACT

The Building Envelope Life Cycle Asset Management project (BELCAM) is to provide building asset managers with access to technology-based tools, such as: product modeling; user requirement and service life prediction models; life cycle costing principles; risk analysis and reliability assessment, and maintenance management strategies. The basis for the development of these life cycle asset management technologies is contingent on: reviewing knowledge of service life and durability issues related to the domains of research, standards, and technology transfer to practice; achieving insight into the interrelationship between these domains; and, proposing a method of rationalizing the integration of these domains. A review is made of these areas and specific research needs in key domains are identified. Proposals are made as to the role of emerging information and other enabling technologies, to fulfill the future needs of innovative asset managers.
