ABSTRACT
Despite Kitcher’s criticisms of Laudan’s countercases to convergent realism, his own theory of progress is quite similar to that of Laudan. Laudan held that progress is achieved when empirical problems or conceptual problems are solved. Kitcher introduced three types of problem-solution-practical, conceptual, and explanatory-that contribute to scientific progress.
