ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with the likely future direction of the management of urban drainage systems. Modern approaches not only consider the system as a whole – for example, the effect of upstream inflows or CSO settings on downstream capacity; they also consider the processes that interact with the drainage system – rainfall or water use at one end, and wastewater treatment and river quality at the other, and how they may be controlled.
