ABSTRACT

The term ‘specifier’ is used throughout this book as a device to describe anybody who regularly, or sporadically, finds that they have to write specifications for contract documents. There is not a huge amount of literature on the subject, and this book is intended as an easy reference and a simple guide for those who find that they are suddenly asked to make a written contribution to an engineering specification. Engineers are noted for their strong opinions and preferences, and I have tried to avoid giving opinions beyond those necessary for guidance on writing a specification.
