ABSTRACT
Over the millennia, tremendous interest has been generated regarding the role of salt in society and in social intercourse.1 Salt and its linguistic derivatives have become a part of the daily parlance in various societies and cultures (Box 36.1). Indeed, the various positive and negative attitudes about salt have been inculcated in social practices, perception, and stature (social position, payment for services, etc.).
