ABSTRACT

Chapters 6 to 8 show how the core principles of Darwinism spurred the rise of Veblenian institutional economics in America in the 1890s. But some essential and preliminary topics remain to be discussed before we land for an enduring stay on American shores. First we return to the 1870s, and address two key problems then faced by Darwinism. The narrative in this chapter discusses the works of some British authors and takes us up to the mid-1890s.
