ABSTRACT
It is of some significance that two Nobel Laureates quoted above, neither of which has a reputation of strong dissent from the mainstream, have pointed to modes of theoretical analysis that would acknowledge institutional and historical specificity. They suggest nothing less than a revival and modernization of some of the core theoretical ideas in the historical school and institutionalist traditions.
