ABSTRACT

The variation of thickness of a circular wall of a storage structure as shown in Figure 12.1(a) may result in saving compared to a constant-thickness wall or when the thickness varies linearly over the whole height. This may be particularly the case in a reinforced concrete wall totally fixed or partially fixed at the base. However, the economy depends largely on the unit prices for material and labour for concrete, reinforcement and the formwork. The tables of this chapter are presented for use when the wall thickness varies as shown in Figure 12.1(a).
