ABSTRACT

The Italian industrial context presents some peculiarities, well known to all the international economic culture. It is made up of a large number of small-and medium-sized companies, highly specialised in their marketing fields. This specific characteristic of Italian manufacturing has promoted a very special approach to industrial design, strongly based on continuous research and experimentation, both in design and in technology. In addition to extreme attention to detail and finishing in product manufacturing, (derived from an historical handicraft tradition) what really determines the success of Italian production abroad are the skills and talents of Italian designers who, since the end of the second world war, have been able to establish a prolific relationship with the manufacturing industry.
