ABSTRACT

Description: Betaferon (Betaseron) is a recombinant human interferon beta that differs from the native protein in that it has a serine at position 17 (replacing a cysteine), no methionine at position 1, and is not glycosylated. The 18.5-kDa protein is produced by recombinant DNA technology in Escherichia coli and supplied in a lyophilized form to be reconstituted to a strength of 0.25 mg/ml before administration as a subcutaneous injection.
