ABSTRACT

Description: Nespo (Aranesp in the U.S.) is a recombinant 166-amino acid human erythropoietin that stimulates the production of red blood cells. It differs from the natural molecule in the occurrence of two additional sugar chains. It has five N-linked carbohydrate side chains, while the natural molecule has only three. This leads to an increased half-life and, therefore, a coupled, reduced frequency of administration is necessary. Nespo is produced in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells and is presented as a solution for intravenous or subcutaneous administration.
