ABSTRACT
Some knowledge of the basic aspects of cancer development will assist in the understanding of cancer behavior and in the diagnosis and management of this condition. This chapter attempts to provide a brief discussion on the pathological aspects of malignancies that are relevant to surgical practice and aims to familiarize the student on the current concepts on the pathogenesis and the laboratory tests used in the investigation of neoplasia.
