ABSTRACT

In order to recognize structures it is necessary to begin by understanding how the structures form and how they influence surface processes. Simple structures will be examined first, followed by increasingly complex forms. The end result should be the construction of a structure map or structural formline map that integrates what is seen at the surface and what is known or presumed about the subsurface from well data, seismic data, etc. This map should reveal the structural fabric of the region as well as showing individual prospect-scale features. It should assist in preparing for seismic, geochemical, and potential fields programs by providing the location and orientation of folds and faults, and should assist in the interpretation of these surveys and well data.
