ABSTRACT
This chapter is divided into the following main sections: sterility testing; bioburden testing; biological indicators; and environmental monitoring. The section on sterility testing includes many of the basic principles applicable to running a microbiology laboratory that deal with the testing in support of the sterility assurance system. The objective in all sections is to provide practical advice, and to encourage microbiologists to think all their activities through to a proper conclusion.
