ABSTRACT

Although it is easy to think of print and film as the two main media of narrative text, the list of potential vehicles is much longer and still growing. In this section, I want to look at three formats: audio recording, filmstrip and computer program. I also want to look at the kinds of “educational” discourse which frame and accompany most of the versions of these formats which I have seen so far. I will return later to the newest medium for this story: CD-ROM.
