If there were no noise in the measurements, there would be no point in making redundant measurements. But when there is noise present, there may be some value in redundant measurements: if we measure something twice, we can average the two measurements. When we do this, we reduce the effect of the noise by a factor of v2. Depending on the circumstances, this may or may not be worth the cost of making extra measurements.
