ABSTRACT
The sensation of dry mouth is a common complaint but in relatively few patients there is a significant, objective reduction in saliva production demonstrable. The precise reason for the sensation of mucosal dryness in patients with normal saliva flow is not clear; it may represent one form of oral dysaesthesia and in some patients, xerostomia may co-present with oral causalgia.
