ABSTRACT

Cephalometric analysis is the measurement of head and face dimensions from true lateral skull radiographs. This pattern of analysis is used in planning orthodontic appliance treatment and plotting for orthognathic surgery. Follow up films allow monitoring of treatment progress and results. For orthognathic surgery, the lateral cephalometric analyses may be inadequate if used in isolation. There are useful systems of profile analysis and frontal facial analysis which may contribute to the treatment plan.
