ABSTRACT
Three-year survival rates following surgery or radiotherapy for unknown squamous primaries range from 40-50% in N1 patients to 38% and 26% for patients with N2 and N3 disease respectively. In those patients who later develop clinically evident primary lesions, survival rates compared with those patients whose primaries remain occult are approximately half that expected on the basis of their nodal disease alone.
