ABSTRACT

The advances in reconstructive techniques designed particularly for use in treatment of complex jaw fractures and improved understanding of the patterns of vascular supply of the jaws has allowed more easy use of elective osteotomies in other branches of head and neck surgery. In planning osteotomy surgery several aspects of the osteotomy need to be considered. 1. The nature of the underlying condition. Preoperative medical status and a history of previous radiotherapy is important.
