ABSTRACT
Patients in hospital have a high risk of nutritional disorders. Disease related and iatrogenic malnutrition or nutritional complications of surgery exhibit a risk that increases with increasing length of hospital stay. Although minor degrees of protein calorie malnutrition do not appear to affect the outcome of surgical operations, major nutritional disorders undoubtedly jeopardise recovery.
