ABSTRACT
Removal of third molar teeth is one of the five commonest surgical procedures performed under NHS inpatient services. It is easy for surgeons to under estimate the morbidity of such surgery and there has recently been much debate about indications for removal of third molars. In the USA the widely quoted NIH Consensus has formed the framework for most research into appropriate use of this opertaion and indications for it.
