ABSTRACT
The advent of chloroform-induced general anaesthesia in surgery was pioneered in the USA and UK in the mid-nineteenth century. Since then, techniques and drugs have been developed to take into account the specific demands of advances in the different surgical specialties. There are several problems for the anaesthetist that are unique to maxillofacial and head and neck surgery.
