ABSTRACT

Surgical correction of functional or cosmetic defects in the shape or structure of the nose is an increasingly common procedure. Patient selection should be performed with particular care as this is one cosmetic operation which is a potential source of disagreements and litigation. Preoperative psychological status of the patient should be assessed carefully to screen out those for whom surgical correction of their nose is unlikely to answer their expressed unhappiness with face or bodily form. Frank dysmorphophobia is a contraindication to surgery.
