ABSTRACT

The oro-pharynx extends craniocaudally from the hard palate at the upper limit to the level of the hyoid bone inferiorly. Its anterior limits are the faucial pillars and the retromolar trigone. For purposes of pathological description it has an anterior wall comprising the base of the tongue, the lateral wall comprising the anterior pillar of the fauces or palatal glossal fold, the posterior palatopharyngeal fold and the tonsil. The roof is formed by the soft palate and its musculature and the posteror wall extends down the posterior pharyngeal wall from the level of hard palate to the hyoid bone.
