ABSTRACT
Japan's puppet state in Manchuria (1932-45). This region had been under indirect Japanese control since the end of the Russo-Japanese War in 1905, when Russian leases were taken over by Japan. As a result, the South Manchurian Railway Company developed vast industrial operations in Manchuria, while the Japanese Guandong army occupied territories around the railway and exerted wide influence in the region.
