ABSTRACT
Ethnography, or the study of a people, is the primary research strategy of anthropology and the provider of its data and wellspring of its theory. This definition raises fundamental issues concerning the nature of social science observation and the role of critical theory. What is the purpose of ethnographic research? How and by whom is the research conducted? Whose truths are being conveyed and under what authority?
