ABSTRACT

The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in many ways stood as symbolic summits of accomplishment and defiance. Seemingly impossible in their height, they broke the drift of the New York skyline with their vertical thumbing. For many New Yorkers they were a place of work; for others, the towers stood as landmarks, helpful when trying to locate uptown from down. Of course tourists to New York enjoyed visiting the World Trade Center as part of the normal New York ‘adventure’. In general, people who lived in or who had visited the city in the past had strong opinions about the architecture of the World Trade Center.
