ABSTRACT

In many ways this is not a typical chapter that readers encounter in textbooks, handbooks, or reference books. This chapter offers a critical review of the previous chapters and then sketches some future prospects for assessment and evaluation of couples and families. The review is decidedly critical and, some might say, even iconoclastic-if not heretical-of the current assessment. The chapter author challenged the contributors of the previous chapters to respond to his observations and assertions. These replies and the author’s response to them round out this discussion.
