ABSTRACT

Torture, political repression, and armed conflict pose an immense threat to individuals and populations on numerous levels. Whether the violence is targeted toward the individual (as in torture) or toward a whole population (as in war), the potential of death or injury of those subjected to such violence is evident. When such threats lead to escape, internal displacement, or asylum seeking in a different country, an additional number of threats are added, including a possible cumulative or synergetic impact on the victim’s health, function, and well-being.
