ABSTRACT

There has been legislation requiring that greater attention be given to the needs of disabled people in the design of buildings for a number of years.

Commencing with the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970, and the Town and Country Planning Act 1971 (replaced by the Town and Country Planning Act 1990), there have been several statutes requiring that buildings to which the public are admitted, including places where people work, and schools, should be accessible to disabled persons.
