INTRODUCTION

Winston Churchill never visited Finland. His knowledge of Finnish history, culture and the Finnish political system was very limited. His interest in the affairs of the small northern country was slight and his intercourse with Finns intermittent. In Churchill’s lifetime, Finland did not have any major international role to play and none of Great Britain’s direct, intrinsic interests were involved in Finland.
