ABSTRACT
On May 28, 2002, Amnesty International (AI) released its annual world report on human rights. The chapter on Chile states that: “Police reportedly used excessive force in a number of incidents, including several police operations in the South of Chile where indigenous people maintain a long-standing land conflict.” The report includes five cases in which police officers violated essential citizens’ rights (Amnesty International 2002).
