Avenues for further research

Second, the present research may be extended to other languages. Due to its growing role as a second ‘world language’, Spanish would seem to be the prime candidate for such research, especially since there is a prolific academic community writing in Spanish. It would also be interesting to conduct contrastive studies comparing marker use in European and Asian languages, and to pursue further the question of ‘marker density’ across languages.
