ABSTRACT
It is common to begin ambitious philosophical projects with disclaimers, and the idea of ‘work in progress’ is a familiar cliché. I nevertheless wish to start by emphasising that this is indeed merely a preliminary report of my intellectual struggles on this topic so far, and I am painfully-if perhaps insufficiently-aware of its limitations.
