ABSTRACT

The romantic love model espoused in novels, songs, and movies is seductive, but poisonous for your marriage. The assumption is that as long as you love each other, everything will be fine. The classic movie Love Story promised “love means never having to say you’re sorry.” That sounds and feels loving, but in reality it is untrue and selfdefeating. Love is not enough to maintain a healthy, secure marriage. The road to alienation and divorce is paved with romantic love myths and unrealistic expectations.
