ABSTRACT
In 1983, at the time of the membership meeting with the jazz musicians and the decision to try to change the “incidental music exception” in the cabaret laws, the newly elected officers of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians were confronted with a host of problems that earlier leaders had failed to solve or had even perpetuated.
