The Arab reaction to the findings of UNSCOP was unequivocal and swift. The Political Committee of the Arab League, meeting in Beirut during September, let it be known that economic sanctions were contemplated against the United Kingdom and the United States.1
The Arab Office spokesman in London, Musa Alami, once an advocate of compromise, greeted the news of the UNSCOP majority report saying that partition was ‘utterly unacceptable to the Arabs’.2
