ABSTRACT

Schemas are mental frameworks used to interpret and organize experience. They consist of the attributes of concepts, and the links between these attributes. They are our personal ‘mini-theories’ about how the world is, and operates. There are five main types of social schemas: person schemas, role schemas, group schemas, self schemas, and event schemas. Schemas help us to manage our social world. When first being formed, schemas are relatively malleable. However, over time they become resistant to change.
