ABSTRACT

It is not necessary to understand ultrasound physics-even as it applies to IVUS imaging-in order to make good clinical use of IVUS information. In fact, most of this chapter can be skipped entirely. Its two most important parts are (1) understanding the basic imaging controls and the fact that only minimal “tweaking” of these controls is usually best and (2) recognition of artifacts and how they affect image interpretation and utility of the information.
