ABSTRACT

This and the following chapters are case studies on the implementation of real-time systems. The banking industry provides the background. The text respects the principle that a case study must be a representative project able to retain the attention of committed learners. These four chapters cover some of the most important issues in modern banking: the general systems perspective (Chapter 9), treasury (Chapter 10), risk management (Chapter 11), and back office (Chapter 12). Viewing four different sides of the same industry is consistent with the fact that a case study must be worked out from different perspectives.
