ABSTRACT

Intermediate uveitis was a term introduced by the International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG) as a part of an anatomic classification for uveitis. The intermediate zone of the eye is considered to be an area of the eye that includes the ciliary body, pars plana, choroid and peripheral retina as far posteriorly as the exit of the vortex veins. Intermediate uveitis is one in which inflammation involves this area of the eye. Pars planitis is described as the type of uveitis in which there is accumulation of inflammatory material in the region of the vitreous base and pars plana.
