ABSTRACT
In mid-January 1955, the US and the UK switched roles. When Turkey and Iraq invited the UK to join their pact, the British decided to respond in the positive. At the very same juncture, Dulles was deterred by Nasser’s violent opposition, and recoiled from the natural outcome of his own brainchild.
