ABSTRACT

The first continent urinary diversion was a ureterosigmoidostomy performed by Simon in 1851.1 Although several other types of continent urinary diversion have been described in the literature, it was not until the late 1970s and early 1980s that significant success was achieved. This success has, in turn, stimulated interest in adopting and adapting continent urinary diversions.
