ABSTRACT
As the above outline shows, West German historians, in particular, were fairly slow in turning their attention to the revolutionary initial phase of the Republic. However, from the early 1960s onwards the study of this field developed rapidly and for over a decade it was a popular subject of research, with many studies calling in question the view of the revolution that had until then prevailed.
