ABSTRACT
LabVIEW is a powerful tool for implementing real-time testing and measurement in academic and industrial applications. Serial data communication is crucial in these and many other fields, and serial devices are now standard components of almost every PC. Most computers include two RS232-based serial ports. Serial communication is also commonly used for instrumentation; numerous GPIB-compatible devices also come with RS-232 ports. Serial communication is often used for data acquisition in conjunction with a remote sampling device.
